| Gyr-Tec
takes pride in producing large white Gyr falcons and their
hybrids.
Gyr-Tec is owned and managed by James Buttle and partners.
James started his falconry career, as a boy, flying a kestrel
in Coventry. He became a member of the British Falconry
Club in 1967, whereupon he graduated to hunting with goshawks
and peregrines.
In 1996, James became the first falconer in two hundred
years to work for the Royal Armouries of England. He was
Master Falconer at the prestigious Royal Armouries Museum
in Leeds for five years. He has published several articles
on training falcons and eagles.
James' passion has always been flying long wings (Peregrines,
Sakers and Gyr/Gyr hybrids) at game. Breeding falcons was
a natural extension of this passion, and Gyr-Tec was born
when James Buttle moved to South Africa in 2001. This year,
it was time to return to the UK. Gyr-Tec, with all its breeding
stock, was translocated to their new home in southern Scotland.
Our aim is to produce large good-natured falcons that enter
well to quarry species. The progeny from each pair is evaluated.
We score on physical characteristics such as weight and
size, but also on ease of manning, time to hunting and hunting
ability. Feed back from clients in this regard is invaluable.
Our breeding programme is then amended and tailored to increase
the percentage of ideal hunting falcons. This allows us
to breed the falcons you are looking for. |
